Huisman and Stroetinga winners Mass Start competition

Mariska Huisman and Arjan Stroetinga have won the first Mass Start competition. Both marathon skaters won the last race in Groningen and with this victory also the overall competition.

This season is the first year the Mass Start competition was held. The Mass Start competition is a competition over three races on three different ice rinks just before the KPN Marathon Cup.

Mariska Huisman was the first winner in the woman category. Huisman won the last two races. Foske Tamar van der Wal was second, Cindy Vergeer third. In the men's category the victory went to Arjan Stroetinga. Stroetinga won the first and the last game. Niels Mesu was second in the competition, Thom van Beek third.

Little enthusiasm

The new competition is not immediately a big success. Almost no Long track speed skaters participated in the mass start competition and also a lot of marathon teams did not race. In the first two races there was in A- and B group, but during the last race in Groningen there was only one group. The number of participants in Groningen compared to the first race in Den Haag was almost halved.
